2025 NFL Draft | Panthers’ Picks for the second, third rounds

Defensive lineman Nic Scourton, a Texas A&M product, was the first move Carolina made Friday.

GREEN BAY, Wis. β€” The Carolina Panthers made a move to bolster the roster’s defense Friday as the 2025 NFL Draft continued.

In the second round of the draft, the Panthers traded up for four picks with Denver, moving up with some picks: 51, 85, 122, and 208 from Denver, giving the Broncos 57, 74, 111 and 230. When pick 51 came up, the Panthers opted for Nic Scourton, a defensive lineman from Texas A&M.

Meet Nic ScourtonΒ

The 20-year-old Scourton, who also spent time with Purdue, hails from deep East Texas from the small town of Timpson, although he went to high school right in Bryan, not far from where he’d end up finishing his collegiate career. He stands at 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs in at 285 pounds.

During his time with Purdue as a freshman, he played in 10 games and racked up 22 tackles plus two sacks. As a sophomore in 2023, he led the Big Ten Conference with 10 sacks and tallied up 50 tackles. He transferred to A&M after that season.

In his time with the Aggies, Scourton got in five sacks within 12 games, all of which he started in. He was named to the 2024 All-SEC First Team and was a Lombardi Trophy Semifinalist that year.

“I think I’m ready,” Scourton said. “I’m just excited. I’m blessed to be put in this position.”

Meet Princely Umanmielen

Another edge runner was added to the Panthers’ roster by the end of Friday night: Princely Umanmielen, a defensive end from Ole Miss.

Umanmielen, a Nigerian-American who attended high school in Manor, Texas — just outside of Austin — started his collegiate career with the Florida Gators. In his freshman year in 2020, he got three tackles – two of them for a loss – and two sacks. The next year, he got 17 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. In 2022, he racked up 39 tackles, 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

Rather than declare for the NFL in 2024, Umanmielen transferred to Ole Miss in 2023. He stands at 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs in at 244 pounds.
