LOS ANGELES β The Charlotte Hornets have shared when they will play against both the Lakers and the Clippers after away games against both teams were postponedΒ by the ongoing wildfires in the Los Angeles area.Β
On Wednesday, the team shared a pair of new dates for the games. The game against the Lakers will be played on Wednesday, Feb. 19, with tipoff at 10 p.m. Eastern time. The match-up with the Clippers will happen on Sunday, March 16 with a 7 p.m. tipoff. Both are away games for the Hornets.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) postponed both games less than a week ago. The league announced the Hornets-Lakers postponement in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, as the wildfires tore through the area.
“The entire NBA family sends its thoughts and support to the community of Los Angeles during this challenging time. We are grateful for the thousands of local firefighters and first responders who have demonstrated enormous bravery. Our prayers remain with those affected by the unimaginable devastation caused by the wildfires,” part of the statement read.
The Hornets later announced the game against the Los Angeles Clippers would similarly be postponed. The team also offered support to those impacted as well in a statement shared on X.
The wildfires have forced hundreds of thousands of people in the Los Angeles area to evacuate and have thus far ripped through about 45 square miles — roughly the size of San Francisco. As of Tuesday, the death toll has risen to 24.
Fires donβt usually blaze at this time of year, but specific ingredients have come together to defy the calendar in a fast and deadly manner.
