Quero is one of Chicago’s top prospects, appearing in 15 games for the Charlotte Knights before getting called up.

The 22-year-old catcher who showed flashes of brilliance with the Charlotte Knights is on his way to the Chicago White Sox for his major league debut.Β
The switch-hitting prospect, among the best in the White Sox organization, was overcome with emotion when he heard the news from manager Sergio Santos. In 15 games with Charlotte, Quero posted a .333 batting average and a .444 on-base percentage. He is the No. 62 overall prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.Β
The White Sox posted a video on X on Thursday showing the moment Quero learned he was getting called up to Chicago. Quero will make his MLB debut Thursday against the Athletics. He’s expected to bat seventh in Chicago’s lineup.Β
“You haven’t been catching as many games as you’d like, but your work in between the days you’ve not been catching, you’ve done a great job,” Santos explained. “You’re getting a call up to the big leagues. You’re flying out tonight.”Β
Quero could only muster, “No way,” and was immediately brought to tears.Β
“You absolutely earned it, kid,” Santos said, embracing Quero. “I’m proud of you, dude.”Β
Quero was part of the White Sox taxi squad for the final week of the 2024 season but didn’t appear in any games. His call-up comes amid an interesting dynamic in Charlotte, as the Knights juggled Quero and Kyle Teel, another highly rated catcher prospect.Β
“My goal is to keep working behind the plate, help the pitchers, help the team,” Quero told Knights team reporter Kendall Smith on Wednesday.Β
