Reports say it’s an $8 million deal with $6 million guaranteed.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β Quarterback Andy Dalton will stick around Charlotte for at least two more years.
Dalton signed a two-year deal with the Carolina Panthers, the team announced on Tuesday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports it’s an $8 million deal with $6 million guaranteed.Β
The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback has served as the Panthers’ backup for the past two seasons as the team develops Bryce Young.
Dalton has started six games with the Panthers with 9 touchdown passes, 1350 yards passing, and a 64.2% completion percentage in his appearances. The Panthers are 1-5 in Dalton’s starts.
Most of Dalton’s 14-year career was spent with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he was selected to three Pro Bowls and led the team to five playoff appearances. He bounced between Dallas, Chicago, and New Orleans before landing in Carolina in 2023.
Dalton was called to start for the Panthers in 2024 after Young struggled in the season’s first two games. He guided the Panthers to their first win of the season in Week 3 against the Raiders but the team struggled in the rest of his starts.
A thumb injury suffered in an October car crash in Charlotte put Dalton back on the sidelines. Young flourished in his return to the starting role, showcasing the franchise quarterback capabilities that the Panthers hoped for when they selected him with the first pick in the 2023 draft.
Dalton has thrown for 39,500 yards passing and scored 253 touchdowns in his career, both are seventh among active quarterbacks.Β
