Swiderski scored 32 goals in all competitions with Charlotte FC, more than double the next player on the franchise’s all-time scoring list.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β Charlotte FC has transferred the franchise’s all-time leading scorer to Europe.
Forward Karol Εwiderski was sent to Panathinaikos FC on a permanent transfer, the team announced Thursday.
The Polish forward, who was Charlotte FC’s first Designated Player, departs as the club’s all-time leader in goals (32) and assists (15) after appearing in 85 matches across all competitions since joining in January 2022. Patrick Agyemang is second on Charlotte’s all-time scoring list with 14 goals.
“Karol was our Club’s first Designated Player and his successes on the pitch played a big part in how we’ve established ourselves in this league over the last three seasons,” General Manager Zoran Krneta said.
The transfer opens a Designated Player and international roster slot for Charlotte FC. Εwiderski is returning to Greece, where Panathinaikos currently sits second in the Super League and has advanced to the knockout phase of the UEFA Conference League.
Krneta added that Εwiderski “helped us earn back-to-back playoff appearances and always gave everything he had when wearing the Charlotte shirt.”
Charlotte has been active in January’s transfer market. The team added forward Wilfried Zaha on a loan from Galatasaray from the Turkish SΓΌper Lig and midfielder Eriky Williamson from the Portland Timbers on a permanent transfer. Charlotte FC also reacquired Pep Biel on a loan from Greece’s Olympiacos.
Dean Smith, Charlotte FC’s manager, is hopeful to improve on the team’s fifth-place finish in the Eastern Conference in 2024. Charlotte was eliminated in the first round of the MLS playoffs.
