CHARLOTTE, N.C. β Charlotte Hornets guard Brandon Miller is out for the season after getting surgery to repair his wrist, the team announced Thursday afternoon.
Miller suffered a torn scapholunate ligament in his right wrist earlier this week and the team initially listed him as out indefinitely. Now, the team said he underwent surgery in New York City to hopefully fix the issue and will miss the rest of the season.
The scapholunate ligament is the most frequently sprained carpal ligament, medical experts explained. Notable other NBA players who tore the ligament like Bradley Beal and Jaylen Brown also needed surgery.
Miller has been a standout performer for the Hornets this season, averaging 21 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.1 steals over 27 games. His impressive shooting has seen him connect on 3.9 three-pointers per game, ranking fifth in the NBA. Over his two-season NBA career, Miller has appeared in 101 games, starting 95 of them, and holds career averages of 18.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.7 assists.
Last season, Miller’s exceptional play earned him a spot on the All-Rookie First Team, three Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honors, and a place in the Rising Stars event at All-Star Weekend.
