Charlotte Knights gear up for exciting Opening Day at Truist Field

Team hosts the Gwinnett Stripers starting Friday at 7:04 p.m.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β€” For a late-March Opening Day, the Charlotte Knights are feeling pretty good.

“Oh my gosh, Β it’s beautiful,” COO Dan Rajkowski said. “You’re always worried about March in Charlotte. You can get 40 degrees or 70 degrees. Looking for a great night against the Braves. A tremendous evening to kick off the 2025 season.”

There’s a lot of new as always for the Chicago White Sox Triple-A affiliate, including manager Sergio Santos, a former Major League pitcher.

“What’s not to like? We have such a good mix of really good pitching, our defense and we’ve got a lot of boppers,” Santos said. “The hardest part for me is where to find these guys in the lineup.”

Fans will also notice brand new video boards, including the big one in left field.

It’s part of a $4 million project undertaken after Diamond Baseball Holdings added the club to its ownership portfolio last June.

“With new ownership taking over it was a commitment they made to replace these boards,” Rajkowski said. “We’re putting together a five-year plan in which a lot of things need to be done. 6.8 million people have gone through this building since we opened in 2014. We’ve got to make some improvements. Our ballpark looks great, but you’ve got to continue to keep that up.”

For these minor leaguers hoping to get to The Show, playing at Truist Field with its gorgeous skyline views is not a bad consolation.

“It was really fun here, the atmosphere,” infielder Chase Meidroth said. “The fans are fun here. It’s a great environment.”

Charlotte hosts Opening Knight on Friday against Gwinnett at 7:04 p.m.

The game will be followed by a fireworks show, and Saturday night’s game will be host to the franchise’s first-ever drone show.
