The Kansas City Chiefs are chasing their third straight Super Bowl title. They’ll have to take down Saquon Barkley and the red hot Philadelphia Eagles to do so.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β In an exciting Super Bowl rematch, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are set to clash once again.Β
Super Bowl 59 will be played at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FOX and livestreamed on the FOX Sports app. It’s the eighth time the Superdome has hosted the Super Bowl, the most of an NFL venue.Β
Former NFL player Eugene Robinson appeared on WCNC+ Monday morning to preview the big game. During an exclusive interview, Robinson highlighted the key factors that could determine the outcome. Patrick Mahomes, who led the Chiefs to a 38-35 victory two years ago, remains a formidable force. Robinson, who was a three-time Pro Bowler during his career, praised Mahomes’ ability to make crucial plays when it matters most.Β
“All you can say is that young man can flat-out play some football,” Robinson said.Β
Mahomes expertly guided the Chiefs to two critical first downs to seal the win over Buffalo in the AFC Championship Game. On the other side awaits Jalen Hurts and the Eagles, who clobbered Washington to win the NFC.Β
Robinson noted Philadelphia’s explosive offense, which put up 55 points in Sunday’s win, and a ferocious defensive front that can wreak havoc. Ultimately, Robinson believes the Super Bowl could hinge on which team makes the first mistake, whether it’s a fumble, interception or dropped pass that leads to a punt.Β
“It’s going to be one of those games that somebody has to make a mistake because both teams are really, really good,” he said.Β
Robinson also mentions the motivation for the Eagles, who are eager to avoid a repeat of their previous loss.Β
“There’s a taste in their mouth for Philadelphia,” Robinson said. “They’re thinking that the Chiefs probably got away with the 38-35 game. It came down to James Bradberry, a pass interference call that allowed them to go ahead and retain possession and run out the clock.”Β
