Greg Olsen’s Ungala: star-studded night supports congenital heart children

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β€” In what’s becoming a staple of the Charlotte sports calendar, Panthers legend Greg Olsen, his wife Kara, and their HEARTest Yard Foundation hosted their fourth-annual Ungala at Steak 48 on Mondaya night.

The event benefits HEARTest Yard, which helps the families of children with congenitial heart disease.

The Olsen’s son, T.J., had a heart transplant in July of 2021.

The family’s journey with T.J.’s health made national news during Olsen’s playing career.

“The partnership of the community and with Steak 48 opening their doors,” Olsen said. “We’re so thankful. The last Monday in February is one that our team holds close.”

On Monday, dozens of sports celebrities turned out for the event including former Panthers Luke Kuechly and Jonathan Stewart, as well as Charlotte FC’s Brandt Bronico and NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Joey Logano.

“For the success we were able to have, the best part of our experience with the Panthers were the guys,” Olsen said. “We were very fortunate that in our best years, our locker room was full of great guys. A lot of those teammates will be here tonight.”

In 2024, the event raised $305,000, which equates to over 6,100 hours of in-home nursing care for a new heart baby.
