Ball has received 947,444 votes as of Thursday, outpacing Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell (718,084) and Milwaukee’s Damian Lillard (704,914) in the first round of returns. The Hornets star is fourth in voting among all players in the Eastern Conference and ninth among all players in the NBA.Β
The 22-year-old Ball is having a career year, averaging 30.1 points per game – fourth-best in the NBA and on pace to set a Hornets franchise record. He’s also averaging 5.3 rebounds and 7.4 assists. Ball leads the league in both three-pointers (4.5) and fourth-quarter scoring (9.6) per game.
Ball’s season highlight came on Nov. 23 against Milwaukee, where he scored a career-high 50 points with six three-pointers, five rebounds and 10 assists.Β
The 2022 All-Star and former Rookie of the Year is one of only four players this season averaging at least 30 points, five rebounds and five assists, joining Giannis Antetokounmpo, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic.
Fan voting continues through Jan. 20, with the next update scheduled for Jan. 9. The All-Star starters will be announced on Jan. 23 on TNT, with reserves revealed a week later. The final selection process combines fan votes with input from players and media members.
The All-Star Game will be played in San Francisco.
Ball’s impressive season has not helped the Hornets much in the win column. Charlotte is (7-25) second-last in the Eastern Conference and has lost its last eight games. The Hornets have won just one of their last 16 games.
Brandon Miller is second behind Ball in scoring with 21.4 points per game. Vasillije Micic is second behind Ball in assists with 3.8 assists per game.
