LaMelo Ball out with ankle injury

Ball has missed 119 games because of ankle injuries in the last three seasons.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β€” An ankle injury will once again leave Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball off the court.

Ball will miss Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers. The team will reevaluate his injury in one week.Β

An MRI confirmed that Ball suffered a left ankle sprain during the second quarter of Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.Β

Ball is having a career year despite another injury setback, averaging 28.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 7.3 assists through 31 games this season. He led Eastern Conference guards in fan voting for the NBA All-Star Game but was snubbed from a starting role. Ball has a chance to be named as a reserve on Thursday.

The former third overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft has battled ankle issues throughout his five-year career but has established himself as Charlotte’s franchise cornerstone when healthy. Ball has missed 119 games because of ankle injuries in the last three seasons. That accounts for 57% of Charlotte’s games during that timeframe.

The Hornets are 12-32 and sit 14th in the Eastern Conference.
