Corso, who turns 90 in August, plans to do one more ‘College GameDay’ show before he retires.
WASHINGTON β Lee Corso, one of the longtime stars of ESPN’s “College GameDay” is retiring after more than 30 years on the program.Β
“For multiple generations, Coach has been the face of our Saturday mornings and the sport we love. Our friend, our coach, our heart … LC, you will forever be a College GameDay legend,” the official College GameDay social media account said Thursday.Β
Corso, who turns 90 in August, will work one final “College GameDay” show during the first week of the 2025 college football season. The location of that episode on Saturday, Aug. 30 will be announced later this spring.Β
“My family and I will be forever indebted for the opportunity to be part of ESPN and College GameDay for nearly 40 years,” Corso said in a statement released by ESPN. “I have a treasure of many friends, fond memories and some unusual experiences to take with me into retirement.”
Corso joined ESPN in 1987 and has been part of the popular college football Saturday pregame show ever since. His head-gear game predictions, off-the-cuff analysis and signature line β βNot so fast, my friendβ β have endeared him to generations of college football fans. He has made 430 headgear selections over the years.Β
The head-gear picks started in 1996 when Corso donned the head of Ohio Stateβs Brutus Buckeye before a game in Columbus with Penn State.Β


In the spring of 2009, Corso suffered a stroke at his home in Florida, but returned to be part of the first βCollege GameDayβ that season.
Over the past couple of seasons Corso has had to miss a handful of “College GameDay” episodes for health reasons.Β
