Queens debuts new turf field with doubleheader split against NC A&T, avoiding rain-related game issues.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β If there was ever a day to debut a new turf softball field, it was Wednesday.
Heavy, downpouring rain in Charlotte would have made a dirt and grass surface nearly impossible to prepare for a game that afternoon.
Luckily, Queens doesn’t have to worry about that anymore.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Knothole Foundation featured a ribbon-cutting of a new turf field at the “Stick” Williams Dream Fields in West Charlotte.
Among the field’s many purposes are home games for Royals softball.
“We wouldn’t be playing today,” Queens coach Kella Armstrong said. “It’s awesome for our girls. It’s pretty much a game-changer in college softball.”
The Royals split a doubleheader against North Carolina A&T to debut the field.
Their next home game is Saturday against Presbyterian.
