Eugene Robinson analyzes the matchup between the Chiefs and Eagles as Kansas City aims for the first threepeat in Super Bowl history.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β As the countdown to Super Bowl Sunday continues, excitement is building in New Orleans, where the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs are set to clash at the Superdome.Β
Former NFL player Eugene Robinson, a three-time Super Bowl participant and two-time Pro Bowler, shared his insights on the upcoming game, offering a unique perspective on what fans can expect. Robinson described the anticipation and excitement that players feel leading up to the big game during an interview on WCNC+ Friday.Β
“It’s one of the most exciting things because as a football player, this is what you’ve done your entire life is built for this one moment right here,” he said.
When asked about the strengths of both teams, Robinson highlighted the formidable nature of the Chiefs’ offense, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes.Β
“It’s hard to go against Patrick Mahomes because he’s so dangerous,” Robinson said. “He’s like Tom Brady. He reminds me of Joe Montana, he’s a one-of-a-lifetime quarterback.”

Mahomes’ ability to make unexpected plays and his knack for leading comebacks make him a constant threat on the field. But will it be enough to overcome the Eagles, which have arguably the most complete roster in the NFL?Β
Β “The way that the Philadelphia Eagles are built, they run the ball extremely well,” Robinson said, pointing out the impact of NFL Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley. The former Penn State star has been pretty much unstoppable in the playoffs, rushing for over 300 yards and five touchdowns in two games.Β
Robinson’s prediction for the Super Bowl was a tough call, but he ultimately leaned toward the Chiefs.Β
“I think the Chiefs are gonna win,” he stated, acknowledging Mahomes and his supporting cast’s challenge to any defense.Β
However, Robinson also acknowledged the possibility of an Eagles upset, given their strong overall performance and ability to capitalize on opponents’ mistakes. Regardless of who wins, Robinson feels the outcome won’t be determined until the final minutes.Β
“Whoever has the ball last is going to win the game,” Robinson predicted.Β
Super Bowl LIX (Super Bowl 59) will air live Sunday, Feb. 9 on FOX, FOX Deportes, Tubi, Telemundo and across NFL digital properties with unauthenticated access across devices. The game is scheduled to kick off around 6:30 p.m. Eastern.Β
