Bryce Young named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after setting Panthers record vs. Falcons

Young set a Panthers record with 448 passing yards in a thrilling overtime win against Atlanta.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β€” Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his record-setting performance in a 30-27 win over the Atlanta Falcons last week.Β

Young tallied 448 passing yards and three touchdowns, including a 54-yard pass to tight end Tommy Tremble to set up the game-winning field goal.Β

Atlanta led 21-10 at halftime, but Young and the Carolina offense were unstoppable in the second half, putting up 20 points against the Falcons’ defense. The third-year quarterback came in clutch as the Falcons slowed down running back Rico Dowdle, limiting the former South Carolina Gamecock to just 45 yards on 19 carries.Β

Young’s 448 yards broke Cam Newton’s franchise record for passing yards, which Newton set in his first NFL start.Β

Young is the fifth Carolina player to win the weekly award this season. It’s the first time the team’s had five different winners since 2017, according to Panthers.com. Other winners this season include Dowdle, Ryan Fitzgerald, Sam Martin and Tre’Von Moehrig.Β

Sunday’s win boosted Carolina’s record to 6-5 and has them firmly in the NFC playoff picture. They’ll pack their bags for San Francisco and a Monday Night Football contest with the 49ers, who currently hold the last playoff spot with their 7-4 record. The NFL.com Playoff Predictor says Carolina stands a 32% chance of making the postseason with a win, while a loss would drop their playoff chances down to just 13%.Β
