The incident happened at the end of Carolina’s 20-9 loss to San Francisco.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β The NFL issued a one-game suspension to Carolina Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig for punching San Francisco 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings in Monday night’s game.
The punch happened on San Francisco’s final drive of their 20-9 win. Moehrig hit Jennings at the end of a play.
League officials say Moehrig violated a rule that prohibits players from “throwing a punch, or a forearm, or kicking an opponent.”
Moehrig will miss Carolina’s game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, Nov. 30, because of the suspension. He is allowed to appeal the suspension.
Moehrig had eight tackles in Monday’s game. The Panthers had three interceptions but were unable to capitalize on offense throughout the night.Β
The Panthers have not commented on the situation.
When asked about the incident after Monday’s game, Panthers coach Dave Canales said he hadn’t seen the video but would speak with Moehrig after reviewing the film.
