NASCAR reinstates driver after suspension over livestream comments

Daniel Dye resigned from Kaulig Racing amid the reinstatement. The team has signed Corey LaJoie to finish the truck series season in the No. 10 Dodge.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β€” Daniel Dye, the NASCAR driver suspended over comments made during a livestream, was reinstated by NASCAR two weeks after the incident.

NASCAR announced Dye’s reinstatement on Tuesday. Kaulig Racing, the team Dye drove for in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, simultaneously announced that he resigned from the team. Corey LaJoie will take over the No. 10 Dodge for the remainder of the season.

Dye was suspended on March 17 after clips of him mocking NTT IndyCar Series driver David Malukas on a live stream were revealed. Dye used voices that made inferences about Malukas’s sexuality. NASCAR stated Dye’s suspension was indefinite and noted he would have to complete sensitivity training before returning to competition.

β€œI chose my words poorly and I understand why it upset people,” Dye said after his suspension was announced. β€œI’m sorry to anyone who was offended. That’s not how I want to represent myself.”

Dye, 22, has 49 starts in the truck series and 48 starts in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. He was racing in both series at the time of his suspension. Dye was racing part-time for AM Racing in the O’Reilly series before the suspension. It’s unclear if he will return with the team in 2026.

Dye’s best finish in the truck series was a second-place run at Nashville in June 2024. He has two top fives and 10 top 10s in the series.Β

Dye was racing full-time in the truck series after a one-year stint with Kaulig in the O’Reilly series, where he scored eight top 10s with a best finish of seventh.

“After a lot of honest self-reflection and guidance from mentors I trust, I’ve decided the smartest move for my career is to realign my focus on my long-term objective of becoming a successful driver at the highest level of stock car racing,” Dye said in a statement on Tuesday. “Now that I’m reinstated, I’m optimistic about what the future holds and look forward to working hard at my next opportunity.”

This is not the first time Dye has come back from a suspension. Dye was suspended by ARCA in 2022 after he was arrested for allegedly punching a high school classmate in the groin. Dye’s charges were later dropped, and he returned to racing.
