Adam Sperling named Executive Director of Truist Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β€” The weather on a late January Wednesdsay was good enough for golf.

But there are still a few more months before the PGA Championship returns to Quail Hollow Club in May.

And looking ahead to 2026, Charlotte’s annual PGA Tour stop will return with a new name: The Truist Championship.

Truist is the new title sponsor for what has been known as the Wachovia Championship, Quail Hollow Championship and just recently, the Wells Fargo Championship.

It’s still a signature event on the PGA Tour.

On Monday, Adam Sperling was named the Truist Championship’s Executive Director.

“Golf fans can expect what they’ve come to expect every year since 2003,” Sperling said. “Quail Hollow Club welcoming the best golfers in the world. And a really dedicated title sponsor that’s passionate about making an impact.”

Sperling held the same role for the 2022 Presidents Cup at the south Charlotte course, and stuck around becoming the club’s Director of Professional Golf for the last few years.

Now he’s excited to run the Truist Championship, which will be played in Philadelphia in 2025, before returning to Quail Hollow in 2026.

Coming in off of the 2025 PGA Championship will be a unique opportunity.

“The annual event has always provided an incredible foundation for what is two majors as well as the Presidents Cup,” Sperling said. “These larger events help expand the market and create more opportunity for the annual event.”

It’s a hand-in-hand dynamic Sperling said can work in Truist Championship’s favor.

“The PGA Championship is going to be fantastic,” Sperling said. “It’ll be at a scale that is probably unprecedented here in Charlotte as they Β probably set some additional records. We’re going to look to capture that tailwind.”
