Charlotte Hornets sign Jaylen Sims for the season

Charlotte native Jaylen Sims signed with the Hornets for the season following a standout 10-day contract.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β€” Β Local talent Jaylen Sims has secured his place in the NBA, as the Charlotte Hornets announced Sunday they have signed the guard for the remainder of the season after his impressive showing during a 10-day contract.

Sims has made the most of his limited minutes since joining the team on April 3, averaging 6.0 points, 1.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 18.2 minutes per game across five appearances. While these numbers might seem modest, his potential has not gone unnoticed by the Hornets coaching staff.

Before joining the Hornets, Sims established himself as the Greensboro Swarm’s all-time leading scorer over three seasons in the G League. This year, he was instrumental in leading the Swarm to their first-ever playoff appearance, averaging 19.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 49 games.

The Hornets front office has been monitoring Sims’ development within the organization’s system, noting his progress from undrafted prospect to G League standout.

For Sims played four years at UNC Wilmington and earned All-Colonial First Team honors as a senior.
