The Canucks held on for a hard-fought 3-2 victory that gets them one win away from hoisting the Calder Cup.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β The Abbotsford Canucks picked up a huge 3-2 win over the Charlotte Checkers in Game 4 of the Calder Cup Finals Thursday, pushing the Checkers to the edge of elimination.Β
The Canucks took an early lead when Jonathan LekkerimΓ€ki scored just 26 seconds into the game. The Checkers battled hard throughout the first period but could not tie the score.Β
Arshdeep Bains doubled Abbotsford’s lead in the second period with his six goal of the playoffs. LekkerimΓ€ki added another goal to make it 3-0 early in the third period.Β
The Checkers managed to find the back of the net on a power play with Kyle Crisculo scoring in the third period.Β
With just under 4 minutes to play, Charlotte pulled its goaltender for an all-out offensive attack. It paid off when Jack Devine got one past the Canucks’ goaltender with just 26 seconds to play.Β
Unfortunately for Charlotte, they weren’t able to set up in the offensive zone over the final seconds and Abbotsford held on for a 3-2 victory. The win puts the Canucks one victory away from winning the Calder Cup Trophy.Β
Game 5 is set for 9 p.m. ET in Abbotsford. A Checkers victory would bring the series back to Charlotte for Game 6 on June 23.Β
