Charlotte area graduates headed to Super Bowl with Eagles

This will be Jordan Davis’s second Super Bowl appearance.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β€” The Philadelphia Eagles crushed the Washington Commanders to reach Super Bowl 59.

Philadelphia beat Washington 55-23 in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday. Among the players on the Eagles roster are two players familiar to the Queen City.Β

Defensive tackle Jordan Davis and rookie running back Will Shipley attended schools in the Charlotte area. Davis graduated from Charlotte’s Mallard Creek High School and Shipley from Weddington High School in Union County.

In Sunday’s game, Davis had one sack and two tackles. Shipley had 77 yards rushing and one touchdown on four carries. One of Shipley’s runs was a 57-yard gain in the fourth quarter.

This will be Davis’s second trip to the Super Bowl. Davis and the Eagles played in Super Bowl 57, losing 38-35 to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mallard Creek honored Davis ahead of that game with “Jordan Davis Day” in February 2023.Β

Davis graduated from Mallard Creek in 2018. He was a three-star recruit and the 29th-ranked defensive tackle in the nation upon his graduation. Davis committed to the University of Georgia, where he won the Chuck Bednarik Award in 2021 as the Bulldogs won the College Football National Championship. The Eagles drafted Davis in the first round of the 2022 draft.

Shipley was a five-star recruit after graduating from Weddington in 2021. He played three years at Clemson and was a first-team All-American in 2022 when he rushed for over 1,100 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. The Eagles drafted Shipley in the fourth round of the 2024 draft. Shipley gained 82 yards rushing in his rookie season and did not score a touchdown behind running backs Saquon Barkley and Kenneth Gainwell on the depth chart.

The Eagles are looking to win their second Super Bowl in franchise history. They will face either the Chiefs or the Buffalo Bills.
