Charlotte FC beats Montreal 1-0

The black and blue nab three more MLS standing points and a second win against Montreal.

MONTREAL, QC β€” Charlotte FC was back in Canada to take on CF Montreal on Saturday, and the black and blue were hurting for a win against these northern neighbors.

Historically, Montreal had won four of the last six matches between the teams. Charlotte only had one win and shared a draw. While Charlotte FC did win in the last meeting in October 2024, previous matches didn’t shape up to that victory.

But this time, it took just one (1) goal to make it right, and at Stade Saputo no less.

Midfielder Pep Biel got the only goal of the night, finding the net just 16 minutes into play for Charlotte. Montreal didn’t have an answer in the first half, just two yellow cards.

After the break, Montreal still couldn’t break Charlotte’s defense. Montreal did get more yellow cards, however.

When 90 minutes and stoppage time were up, Biel’s goal remained the only one on the board. Charlotte FC won 1-0 and added three more points to its MLS standing while notching a second win historically against Montreal.

The black and blue are back home on Saturday, April 19, to take on San Diego FC. The match kicks off at the usual time: 7:30 p.m. Eastern.

San Diego FC was founded in 2023 and is now in its inaugural season, meaning this will be the first time Charlotte FC will face them. San Diego is currently ranked third in the MLS Western Conference, netting four wins and just one loss thus far in the regular season, along with two draws. Charlotte alum Hamady Diop, a defender from Senegal, is on the San Diego roster.
