LOS ANGELES, Calif β NFL linebacker Denzel Perryman, who had a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers, was arrested Friday night in Los Angeles and is facing a felony weapons charge, according to ESPN.Β
Perryman, 32, was taken into custody on Aug. 1 and booked into LA County Jail, ESPN reported. Deputies pulled him over during a traffic stop and allegedly discovered five firearms in his vehicle, including two AR style rifles, according to TMZ. Perryman was reportedly on his way to a gun range.
The Chargers, Perrymanβs current team, released a statement saying they are aware of the matter and are gathering information. His agent told NFL Network that Perryman βwill fully cooperate with the process.β
Though best known for his time with the Chargers and Raiders, Perryman briefly joined the Panthers in 2021. He signed with Carolina in March of that year, went through training camp, and appeared in two preseason games before being traded to the Las Vegas Raiders on Aug. 25. He never played a regular season snap for the team. During training camp, he was ticketed for driving 91 mph on his way to Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Perryman was originally drafted by the Chargers in 2015 and played six seasons in Los Angeles before bouncing between the Raiders and Texans. He returned to the Chargers in 2024, recording 55 tackles and a sack in 11 games. He earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2021 with the Raiders, posting a career high 154 tackles.
The veteran linebacker is expected to be a key piece of the Chargersβ defense in 2025.
