This was Jordan Davis’ second Super Bowl appearance.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β€” First ,the Philadelphia Eagles demolished the Washington Commanders to win the NFC, and then they crushed the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl. Some Carolina natives got to play in the big game on Sunday.

Eagles defensive tackle Jordan Davis, who graduated from Charlotte’s Mallard Creek High School, had two tackles and one sack.

This was Davis’ second trip to the Super Bowl. Davis and the Eagles played in Super Bowl 57.

Davis graduated from Mallard Creek in 2018. He was a three-star recruit and the 29th-ranked defensive tackle in the nation upon his graduation. Davis committed to the University of Georgia, where he won the Chuck Bednarik Award in 2021 as the Bulldogs won the College Football National Championship. The Eagles drafted Davis in the first round of the 2022 draft.

Eagles running back Shipley, from Weddington High School in Union County, played on special teams, returning one kickoff and also recording one tackle for their defense.Β 

Shipley was a five-star recruit after graduating from Weddington in 2021. He played three years at Clemson and was a first-team All-American in 2022 when he rushed for over 1,100 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. The Eagles drafted Shipley in the fourth round of the 2024 draft. Shipley gained 82 yards rushing in his rookie season and did not score a touchdown behind running backs Saquon Barkley and Kenneth Gainwell on the depth chart.


Super Bowl recap

Cooper DeJean, Josh Sweat and the Philadelphia Eagles’ ferocious defense denied Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs a Super Bowl three-peat.

DeJean got a pick-6 on his 22nd birthday, Sweat tormented Mahomes and the Eagles routed the Chiefs 40-22 on Sunday to secure the franchise’s second Super Bowl championship.

Jalen Hurts threw for two touchdowns and ran for a score on a tush push to earn Super Bowl MVP honors, and Vic Fangio’s defense was so dominant that the Eagles didn’t need much from Saquon Barkley.

The game-changing running back finished with 57 yards, breaking Terrell Davis’ record for yards rushing in a season, playoffs included. Hurts threw for 221 yards.
