The striker, aided by Ashley Westwood, scored the goal at the 35-minute mark.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β Saturday night at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte meant another night of Charlotte FC. The black and blue were riding high after extending the team’s win streak by defeating FC Cincinnati less than a week ago.
Now, they were back home, facing Real Salt Lake. And to borrow from Disney’s “High School Musical” a bit, one player was able to get his head in the game for the win.
The sole goal of the night came courtesy of Charlotte striker Idan Toklomati, with an assist from team captain Ashley Westwood. Toklomati used his head — literally. Westwood kicked from the corner, and Toklomati jumped over a scrum to knock the ball in at the 35-minute mark.
Halftime came and went. Salt Lake couldn’t answer, even with stoppage time. With no response, Toklomati’s header locked in Charlotte’s win. The black and blue are now on a six-match win streak in the MLS, with Saturday’s victory tacking on three more standings points.
Charlotte will stay home for its next match, hosting the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, August 24. Kickoff is a bit earlier at 7 p.m. Eastern.
