LaMelo Ball to miss remainder of Hornets season due to surgeries

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β€” Hornets star LaMelo Ball will miss the remainder of the season to undergo surgeries on his ankle and wrist.Β

ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported Ball would be out of action for the final 10 games of the season. Team doctors and outside specialists say the two procedures will allow Ball to fully heal and have a full offseason. The team confirmed Ball would undergo arthroscopic surgery to address a right ankle impingement. He’ll also have a minor procedure on his right wrist.Β

Ball was having the best statistical season of his career, averaging 25 points and 7 assists. He appeared in just 47 games, the most he’s played in three seasons.Β

It’s been a tough year for first-year head coach Charles Lee, as the Hornets have dealt with numerous injuries. With 10 games left in the season, they’re 36 games below .500 with an 18-54 record. Charlotte has lost its last three games, including a 35-point loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on March 21.Β
