Legette embraces Panthers’ draft choice with open arms and smiles

Carolina selected Tetairoa McMillan with the No. 8 pick in the draft

CHARLOTTE, N.C. β€” If Xavier Legette was upset about the Carolina Panthers drafting another wide receiver in the first round, a year after picking him, he didn’t show it.

In fact, he showed a smile, and said all the right things at the team’s voluntary OTA’s on Tuesday.

Legette was grinning from ear to ear getting back on the practice field, and even dropped some news.

That the Panthers told him before the NFL Draft that there was a chance they’d select McMillan.

“It’s all smiles,” Legette said. “When I was able to meet him face to face, we stuck from there.”

Legette, who was hard on himself for some key drops last season, said he had no problem with the Panthers picking McMillan, a 6-foot-4 All-American from Arizona.

“Shoot, we’re trying to win games,” Legette said. “Any time you can add a masterpiece to what we’re trying to build, it’s great.”

For Head Coach Dave Canales, who calls the plays, having two big-bodied receivers on the field at the same time isn’t such a bad thing.

“It’s a great fit,” he said. “These are two guys that just love to play. They love to play football. You can see the joy on them. They’re grinding, they’re working hard. They’re studying it. It means something to them. I just love seeing their personalities come to life.”
