Mitch Jeter and Sam Pendleton will play for Notre Dame in the college football playoff National Championship.
ATLANTA β The stage is set. On Monday, Notre Dame and Ohio State will play for the 2025 College Football National Championship.Β
North Carolina is well represented on Notre Dame’s sideline with graduate kicker Mitch Jeter, a Salisbury native, and Sam Pendleton, a Reagan High School alum.
With 12 seconds left in the Orange Bowl, Jeter nailed a 41-yard field goal to send the Fighting Irish to the National Championship.Β
“You’re probably the first one that knows if you’ve made or missed a kick,” said Jeter. ” I did watch it and when I knew it was going in, you can watch my reaction if I kind of run out of there.”
Now, the North Carolina natives are getting ready to represent their state and play on college football’s biggest stage.Β
“At the end of the day, you have to you have to look at it from a broad perspective and say, hey, You know, we’re one of two teams about to do this thing, and it’s a, it’s a great honor,” said Pendleton. “It’s been a big part of the message just to continue to keep that in your heart, you know, just remember where you came from.”
“Try not to think of it any differently, Jeter added. “I know it’s a little bit different of a magnitude of a game, but, we try to think of it the same as if we were going all the way back to Week 3 when we were playing Purdue after the NIU loss. We need to be able to feel like we’ve got to continue to be under pressure to win.”
Whether it’s being prepared to go in at any moment.
“God has blessed me so much with the opportunity to be here,” said Pendleton. “I would not be here without sacrifices that He’s given and sacrifices my parents have given.
Or kicking the game-winning field goal in the final seconds.
“Coming up here to Notre Dame was something that I dreamed of,” said Jeter. Being able to play in a National Championship is something I dreamed of.”
Both Jeter and Pendleton are ready to do whatever it takes to bring home a National Championship.
“Going to a National Championship, none of us would be here with all the Lord’s help,” said Pendleton.Β
“It hasn’t really hit me yet that this is my last game in college yet,” said Jeter. “I’m sure it will here shortly. For that to be in the National Championship, it’s something that you write in a storybook.”
