The Panthers conclude their offseason workouts with a three-day minicamp featuring key players, aiming for consistency and improvement.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β With the NFL season about three months out, theΒ Carolina Panthers are closing out offseason workouts with a three-day minicamp.
The entire team is present for the training, including quarterback Bryce Young and rookie receiver Tetairoa McMillan.Β
Overall, players had a relaxed and cheerful mood on Monday. The team’s performance doesn’t count in the record books until Sept. 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. For now, the team can bask in the warm Charlotte June sun and work out any fundamental or physical concerns carried over from last season.
“It’s all about consistency … and that starts here in the summer,” Ickey Ekwonu, Panthers left tackle, said. “[I hope to] keep growing my technique, as a player and as a teammate.”
The Panthers picked up Ekwonu’s fifth-year option this offseason to keep him signed with the team. He said he’s appreciative of the temporary deal but hopes for a longer contract.
For long-time veterans like wide receiver Adam Thielen, the offseason minicamp offers another chance to get on the field and connect with the team as a unit.Β
“[The minicamp] gives you another step forward to talk about the little details,” Thielen said. “It’s about ‘how can we fine-tune this and really get on the same page with the little details?’ which honestly in this league, is everything.”
Thielen, Carolina’s top receiving option the last two seasons, credited Young’s growth and said the positive play in the second half of the season motivated him to return with the team in 2025.
The Panthers are hoping to improve on the 5-12 record from 2024, which saw Carolina win four games and lose many close calls in the season’s second half. Expectations are rising for the Panthers, and the minicamp gives the team a chance to work toward hitting those projections.
