Bryce Perkins was in the Los Angeles Rams organization before playing two seasons with the UFL’s Michigan Panthers.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β Another quarterback named Bryce is signing with the Carolina Panthers.
The Panthers are adding Bryce Perkins ahead of the preseason’s final game. Backup quarterback Andy Dalton suffered a right elbow injury in Saturday’s 20-3 preseason loss to the Houston Texans. Dalton underwent tests on the elbow on Sunday, with Head Coach Dave Canales saying that “he feels fine.”Β
Perkins is familiar with Panthers franchises. He played two seasons with the Michigan Panthers of the United Football League (UFL). Perkins led the Panthers to the 2025 UFL Championship, where they lost to the DC Defenders. Perkins was named the league’s MVP in June.
Before playing in the UFL, Perkins spent two seasons in the Los Angeles Rams organization. The Rams picked up Perkins as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Virginia in 2020. Perkins bounced around between the team’s practice squad and active roster for three seasons and got his first NFL action in 2022. Perkins received a Super Bowl ring after the Rams’ victory in Super Bowl 56.
Perkins has one touchdown and two interceptions in his NFL career.
With starting quarterback Bryce Young only expected for a few series, if any, in the final preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Dalton now nursing an injury, playtime could be split between Jack Plummer and Perkins. Plummer, along with the rest of the Panthers’ offense, has struggled in the preseason. Perkins could give the team to see other options for the third-string spot.
It’s not known which player the Panthers will be moving on from in exchange for Perkins’ signing.
