The Charlotte FC forward makes his career-first international call-up.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β Charlotte FC striker Patrick Agyemang has made an impact in his young professional career and is now catching the attention of the U.S. Men’s National Team.
Agyemang was called up to the USMNT January Camp, which has historically acclimated younger, up-and-coming talent into the national team system. This is Agyemang’s first international call-up after he scored 10 goals, a team-high, with Charlotte FC last season.
Patrick shared that his U.S. national team teammates and coaches have been curious and interested in his soccer journey, as a player who originally played at the D-III level before transferring to University of Rhode Island and getting drafted by Charlotte FC in the 2023 MLS draft. Agyemang believes he has always worked to prove to others, and himself, what he is capable of.
“You know you compare yourself to people in your position and you compare yourself to people who are playing high levels than you and it gets hard. For me, I had the utmost faith and confidence in myself and I just was like ‘I just need an opportunity to show what I can do’ and I just stuck with it,” Agyemang said.Β
While Agyemang is missing a portion of Charlotte FC’s preseason to be part of the camp, he feels the level is preparing him the best possible way and is only helping his confidence grow ahead of his season.
“It’s definitely high level. Speed of play is there, intensity is there, the cleanness of the game is there,” Agyemang said. “The concentration is high. This is everything I think I wanted to be in in an environment, especially in the beginning of the season and I’ve learned so much.”
Agyemang is one of 24 players called into the January camp ahead of two international friendlies. Along with Agyemang, veteran and Charlotte FC defender Tim Ream is also with the national team. Ream has 66 caps with the US national team.
The USMNT will play Venezuela on January 18 and Costa Rica on January 22, both friendlies being played in Florida.
