While heβs in Charlotte, the governor plans to stop by local businesses to talk about βwhatβs working and what can be done to help them expand.β
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β North Carolina Governor Josh Stein visited Quail Hallow Golf & Country Club for theΒ PGA Championship and spoke economic impact on Friday.
βIf you go downtown, all the hotels are full,” Stein said. “If you go out to the restaurants, all of them are full. These are people mainly from outside of Charlotte coming here and spending their money.”Β
Just 8 years ago, the PGA Championship brought in $100 million dollars to the area. This year, Governor Stein says theyβre expecting to far surpass that.Β
βThe economic impact is going to be well over $100 million. Thatβs a lot of money circulating in the economy,β Stein said.
The revenue flow is expected to reach local and state budgets, which Stein says will boost the local economy even further.Β
βA percentage of that is going to come to the state and local government in terms of revenue. So itβs smart to take a piece of that and invest to bring more events to North Carolina,β Stein said.Β
Local vendors on the course say theyβre grateful for that circulation of revenue and for the city choosing to push Charlotte businesses.

βWe couldnβt ask for anything better, not just for us but for all the vendors here,β local caterers Felicia and Manual Cordray said. βJust making sure theyβre not taking things out of the Queen City and actually sowing back into the Queen City, thatβs absolutely amazing.”

Stein is hopeful the influx creates a potential for more events in the near future.
