The South Carolina Gamecocks head football coach appeared before a US House committee on Tuesday.
WASHINGTON β The United States House Energy and Commerce Committee is holding a meeting Tuesday to discuss the impact of NIL, the profiting off one’s name, image and likeness, in college sports.
Shane Beamer, the head football coach for the University of South Carolina’s men’ football team, is expected to testify before lawmakers.Β
NIL rules, introduced in recent years, allow student-athletes to profit from their participation in college sports. For example, B.J. Mack, a former college basketball player for the University of South Carolina, opened a barbershop with his dad using some of the money he made through NIL.

In January, the university’s Board of Trustees approved the new deal Friday morning. The new contract will raise Beamer’s salary to $8.15 million, making him the highest-paid coach in USC history. His previous deal paid him $6.4 million a year, meaning he’ll get a roughly $1.7 million raise in year one. His salary increases every season, with his contract in the final year being $8.65 million.
