The Canucks scored five goals in the third period to pull away from Charlotte.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. β The Abbotsford Canucks earned a dominant 6-1 win over the Charlotte Checkers in Game 3 of the Calder Cup Finals on Tuesday, taking a 2-1 series lead.Β
Charlotte’s Oliver Okuliar opened the scoring in the first period, giving the Checkers the lead heading into the first intermission. From there, it was all Canucks, including a five-goal avalanche in the third period to seal the victory. Abbotsford put the cherry on top with two goals in the last three minutes of regulation, including an empty-net score by Arshdeep Bains that made it 5-1.Β
This was Charlotte’s first multi-goal loss of the playoffs and snapped the club’s 10-game road winning streak.Β
The teams will return to the ice for Game 4 at 10 p.m. on Thursday. Game 5 will be Sunday in Abbotsford. Should the Checkers win one of the next two contests, Game 6 will be in Charlotte on June 23.Β
