Speaking with The Independent, McWilliams poo-pooed the idea of the already established celebrity (like bookiesβ favourites Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi) taking the role, because theyβre already too well known. The 74-year-old shared: βIt is absolutely essential that he retains a total enigma. I donβt want to see any of them as Bond because we now know so much about them. We want to know as little about them personally as possible, because thatβs what spies are.β
She added: βWe donβt need to know where he goes shopping or who his parents are, or where he lives. We never want to see him at home. And a vital element of the whole thing is his job description. Heβs licensed to kill, and we have to believe that he can do that. If you donβt, then youβve lost the audience.β
McWilliams admitted the reason she cast Dalton, Brosnan and Craig was because they werenβt global household names before they became Bond. Of course, Amazon are now in charge, so we wouldnβt put it past them to still go ahead and cast an established A-lister.
