The house
A late-Victorian three-storey terrace in Redfern, inner Sydney.
Who lives here
Art dealer Michelle Perry, her partner, artist Graham Kuo, their adult children, Julian and Talia, plus their three dalmatians, Dash, Dorothy and Dora.
What we did
βWith Brooke Aitken Design, we did a complete renovation of the back of the house downstairs, creating a new kitchen/dining area, indoor courtyard, gallery corridor and a bedroom with ensuite opening onto the back garden,β says Perry. βWe also added a new ensuite bathroom upstairs off the
main bedroom.β
Favourite room
βItβs a toss-up between the vibrant new kitchen and dining space and the glorious sanctuary of my bathroom,β says Perry. βOne is the heart and soul of the house, and the other is a place of luxury and relaxation.β
The βhood
βRedfern is a fabulous place to live,β says Perry. βItβs diverse and eccentric, with a real sense of community.β
Future plans
βWe will eventually redo the other two upstairs bathrooms,β says Perry.
Best advice
βFind an architect or designer you trust β for us it was Brooke Aitken,β says Perry. βShe made the process manageable and bearable. Her understanding of our needs helped create our perfect home.β
