Myf Warhurst is a presenter across radio and TV. Ahead, she documents her style journey, including her favourite designers, and why she loves channelling the style of a β1970s art teacherβ.
Iβd describe my style as ever-evolving. I feel like Iβve been a different person at every stage of my life. Iβm from Melbourne, so Iβve got a lot of black in my wardrobe, but thatβs changing; Iβm leaning more into burgundies, reds and chocolate browns. Iβm in my 50s now, so maybe itβs the first step towards wearing bonkers bright colours and mixing patterns.
The oldest thing in my wardrobe is a yellow A-line mini dress my mum made in the β60s. The most recent addition is a dress by Scandinavian label Helsa in those burgundy and brown colours Iβm loving.
On a plane, I wear a nice wool pant and a jumper because itβs always freezing. On the red carpet, if money was no object, Iβd wear Schiaparelli. What Daniel Roseberry is doing there is mind-blowing. His pieces are works of art.
My favourite fashion era is the β70s. I love a turtleneck and a beautiful boot β I think it goes back to wanting to look like a glamorous 1970s art teacher. I love the β80s, too. The hair was ridiculous and the shoulder pads were huge. It was excessive and I love that.
My favourite designer is Ganni β itβs casual with an edge. And my fragrance of choice is Tom Fordβs βNeroli Portofinoβ.
Three essential items in my wardrobe are a turtleneck, a corduroy jean and black faux-fur jacket. Anything floral, flowy or frilly looks ridiculous on me, but I love a statement earring. Melanie Katsalidisβ Pieces of Eight Gallery has incredibly beautiful things from local makers.
My favourite outfit in kindergarten was a denim overall dress with big red buttons and a striped skivvy underneath.
My first fashion moment was wearing a red velvet dress, made by my mother, to my formal. It was very Madonna [and her song], La Isla Bonita. I wore it with red shoes that had a bow on the heel β quite fashionable for Mildura at the time.
My biggest fashion mistake was having blue-black hair and a blunt fringe in the β90s. I wanted to look like BΓ©atrice Dalle in Betty Blue, but I looked more like the Lego lady. I wish people made more fashion mistakes. Everyone trying to be appropriate all the time means we all look a bit the same.
The shoes I wear most are pointy, kitten-heel boots β I never feel appropriately dressed in sneakers. Iβm currently obsessed with E Nolanβs shoes; Iβll take any, but the peep-toe slingbacks and leopard pony pumps are at the top of my wish list.
My favourite fashion icons are Betty Davis, the singer and songwriter (not Bette Davis, the actor), and Bianca Jagger, who always looked superb in the β70s.
On a typical working day, Iβm usually at home in jeans and a nice top. On the weekend youβll find me in Donna Karan velour leopard tracksuit pants β very Paris Hilton in the early 2000s β and a cosy woollen jumper.
